Piano Boards: Adelaide Piano Removalists Don’t Know What They Are!
Removalists in Adelaide and all over Australia have always moved Piano’s with Piano trolleys and piano straps. Piano trolleys get the job done in a simplistic manner, but when stairs or difficult access arises, things become hard to deal with.
In order for a piano trolley to be effective, piano removalists need
- Flat access, at both the pickup and delivery addresses.
- Strong surfaces for the piano trolley to ride on.
- No consecutive stairs (e.g. each step must be at least a meter apart)
- Driveways that aren’t overly steep
If any of these conditions are not met, the piano removalists generally have their work cut out for them.
In America and other countries, they use piano boards; either in conjunction with a piano trolley or by themselves. The benefits of the piano boards are
- They provide a flat surface for the piano trolley to grip onto
- They can be carried without a piano trolley by 2-6 strong piano removalists.
- They secure the piano from slipping forward when on a steep angle
The design of the special lip on the piano board is what allows the removalists to move the piano safely up or down stairs. Any “slipping” of the piano is a major cause of damage and removalist injury.
The boards also have slots in the side to allow the piano removalists to use straps, this then makes it possible to move heavier items like grand piano’s. If a Grand Piano needs to go up stairs, a piano board makes it possible because there is room for up to 6 piano movers to assist in the lift. Four of the removalists carry the lifting ropes on each side and one removalist on either end with a piano strap around their neck.
It’s still tough, but doable for experienced piano removalists.
The final benefit to using piano boards is the soft padded on top. This allows any standard upright piano or grand piano to sit on its side without scratching, which is great when negotiating tight corners.
