How to pack a washing machine into storage?

It has an angled odd shaped,  reasonably fragile plastic lid  so is hard to pack things on top of it but its too heavy to put up on top of other items?

Don't be hard on yourself,  alot of untrained Adelaide removalists have trouble with this one too.....

The easiest way I have found is to put it on top of your fridge in the storage unit, but only if the dimensions allow it to sit safely. We recommend you hire some experinced, burley removalists to do this as they are a heavy item, especially once you get them up over your head! 

If this is not possible because of height restrictions with in your storage shed,  then another technique is to face the front of the machine into a wall, keeping it an inch away so you don't scratch it.....by facing the washing machine this way you also protect it from damage from other items. Then the next goal is to make the lid more horizontal, if its slightly sloped and angular. If you dont do this and you decide to place other items on top or it, they are a risk of falling off. I use bed side tables on their side, placed gently and being careful not to slide them on the surface, a blanket, sheet or towell placed inbetween will protect both items. The most important thing here is to check that the bed side tables sit over the sides of the washing machine lid so the weight is spread over the vertical sides of the washing machine, they act as support posts for the weight you pack on top of it.

Hot Tip: If you were to  put a small item in the middle of the washing machine lid, any weight will just break through it.  If you have packed the bedside tables correctly, please keep in mind you can only put light items above them, items like a lawnmower catcher, light kids toys, bean bags etc. Whilst this is hard to describe how to do this in writing, it is even harder to do it if your not experienced.
