Moving the Crazy Cat Lady

catsHeard a story this morning on the radio about dob in your neighbours and there was a story about a lady with more cats than furniture. I reminded me of a furniture removal I performed many years ago,  its a great story about a cat lady.

Step back in time to the spring of 2005....

Us local removalists we preping for a great day of moving, we were heading to a job from Ethelton to be moved to Woodville in Adelaides western suburbs. When we arrived we could just tell this was going to be one of those moves where nothing is ready and everything is dusty and dirty. There were cobwebs all over the porch about five,  suspicious looking dishes on the ground. Its a removalists nature to observe most things when we arrive at a job. To my surprise there was a cat sitting in the bush next to the porch just looking at us, I have to admit i started getting this eerie feeling. When our client Ruth,  opened the door a cat ran out and took off down the road. Ruth yelled “Tink, here puss puss puss”.

Panicking she asked us to chase the cat  and catch it for her so my offsider gave chase, just part of the service I insisted. Ruth laughed in a worried manner and said “I am just trying to round up the last few in the laundry”. I asked in a curious manner “last few?, how many have you got”  she responded in a proud manner “11”. I was very surprised by her response but at he same time quiet scared for what the house was going to look like inside. My offsider came back and said “not a chance, that thing is gone” which didn’t really help Ruth’s still panicky state.

Preparing your house properly for your furniture removal, is fundametal for a stress free move!

She opened the door and shut it swiftly behind us and asked for our help her round up the last 3 cats. This house was cluttered full of trinkets.....unpacked trinkets and mainly small furniture items. Ruth asked if we moved piano's, I proudly  told her we were one of Adelaides best piano removalists.I could see Ruth had tried to pack her moving boxes properly but obviously just got overwhelmed by it all. I am not surprised with all of her 4 legged distractions, there was a constant grizzling, hissing and meowing sound bellowing out of the laundry as we rounded up the last cats from under the beds.

Eventually we finished the move and Ruth managed to transport the precious cats to the new place at Woodville without any mishaps. Overall I was surprised how quickly we got the move done, the only issue was the carpets in the Ethelton house needed to be replaced......I will let you work out why! About a week after the move Ruth rang and told me that Tink came home too after a week without food. So it was a happy ending for everyone.
